Christian college's theatre department presents Greek tragedy ‘Ion’ in November

George Fox University's theatre department will present a world-premiere performance of Paul D. Streufert's translation of Euripides' "Ion" in the university's Wood-Mar Auditorium Nov. 4-6 and Nov. 11-14. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of the Sunday, Nov. 14 show, scheduled as a 2 p.m. matinee.

"Ion" follows the story of Kreousa, a young woman who unwillingly conceives a child with the god Apollo. Not wanting to bring shame on her family, Kreousa abandons the child and hopes Apollo will care for him. Sixteen years later, Kreousa visits Apollo's temple at Delphi and meets a boy named Ion who serves as one of the temple's servants. Apollo can either allow Kreousa and Ion to recognize each other, or keep his crime a secret and lead the play to tragedy.

Tickets are $12 for general admission, $8 for seniors and George Fox alumni, and $6 for students and children under 12. Tickets can be purchased by calling the University Box Office at 503-554-3844, visiting the Bruin Bookstore, or going to theatre.georgefox.edu to purchase them online.

Director Rhett Luedtke chose to produce "Ion" because the theatre program had not staged a Greek tragedy since 2004's "Trojan Women."

"One of our goals as a theatre program is to expose our students and audience members to as many different theatrical styles and dramatic genres as possible," Luedtke said. "'Ion' intrigued me. Euripides breaks many of the conventional rules of Greek tragedy in this play. He challenges Athenian patriarchy and questions the power and roles of the Greek gods over human life."

Luedtke has taken some liberties with production of "Ion." Although the set and masks used are reminiscent of ancient Greece, clothing is contemporary. The cast is composed of 12 members who all represent and play the gods. In addition, the seven women share the role of Kreousa as they pass her mask from one actor to women's jackets online the next. Similarly, Ion is played by three men. The remaining characters are portrayed by single actors.

These changes were made for various reasons. "How much control do the 'gods' of our society have over our actions in 2010?" Luedtke wonders. "Secondly, Kreousa's story is a story shared by many women across generations. Having all seven women play her signals Kreousa's connection to all women."

Part of the reason Luedtke decided to have Kreousa and Ion portrayed by multiple actors is because of the amount of growth they go through as the play progresses, while other characters portrayed by single actors go through the least amount of growth.

The performance features theatre (theater) major students as well as students from other majors.

The George Fox University theatre department has been recognized by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. with awards for individual acting, set design, and overall production.

George Fox University is ranked by Forbes as the top Christian college in the Pacific Northwest and among the top three Christian colleges in the country. George Fox is the only Christian university in the Pacific Northwest classified by U.S. News & World Report as a first tier national university. More than 3,400 students attend classes on the university's campus in Newberg, Ore., and at teaching centers in Portland, Salem, and Redmond, Ore., and Boise, Idaho. George Fox offers bachelor's degrees in more than 40 majors, degree-completion programs for working adults, five seminary degrees, and 11 master's and doctoral degrees.

World Sports and Fitness Clothing Market to Reach US$126.30 Billion by 2015, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

Blurring lines of differentiation between sports apparel and garments used for casual, business, everyday or street wear, continue to define an ever-changing landscape in the sports and fitness clothing market. These obscuring differences between sports apparel, fitness clothing, and casual, active wear are leading to an interesting change in target audiences. Changing lifestyles, and attitude towards fitness outerwear, are dictating fashion trends with women exhibiting a proclivity towards fashionable workout wear. Growing emphasis on versatility, convenience, fashion, comfort, style, and performance is creating a strong demand for sports and fitness clothing, which offers both functional performance and style appeal. In terms of consumption growth and overall apparel market share, the segment is expected to garner the highest growth.

Aging-but-act women's coats ive population in the US, Japan and Europe, and emerging markets such as Asia and Latin America present attractive opportunities for apparel makers. Women represent a highly lucrative target audience as they increasingly take up newer sports. On the retail front, conventional sporting goods players vie with fashion stores while department stores compete with mass merchandisers and sporting goods chains, in a bid to capture a pie of this lucrative market. Further, the dynamics of sports and fitness clothing companies in the retail industry would increase consolidation activity among the players. Consumers are increasingly exhibiting widely disparate preferences, classy tastes, and a marked inclination towards those that offer convenience, performance, flexibility and class. Consumers are ready to pay more for performance characteristics that might facilitate them to gain considerable competitive advantage in their sports pursuit. Fabric characteristics such as temperature regulation, friction reduction, moisture management, stretch, lightness, and wind and water resistance are in popular demand. Downstream integration of clothing manufacturers in distribution as evidenced in chains, single brand stores, and the 'shop within a shop' concept, coupled with growth of private-labels, marks a strong trend towards brand strengthening and greater retail concentration

The sports apparel market is highly dynamic and fragmented in nature. The industry witnessed a growing onslaught of powerful brands ranging from basic to leading fashion names. The more established sports brands, popular for genuineness, convenience and sophisticated technology, are continuously striving to maintain their market share. With versatility and functionality largely gaining importance, vendors are responding by introducing sports and fitness apparel in various stylish designs for both men and women. In this regard, major sports apparel companies are partnering with famous designers to introduce innovative stylish apparel brands and offer a new look to the existing brands to attract consumers. Favorable trends such as a stylish teenage marketplace, growing baby boomer segment, and a tendency towards casual dress in the workplace are expected to drive consumption growth of sports apparel and fitness clothing.

The global market for sports and fitness clothing is poised to grow due to sturdy sales in Asian markets which exhibited robust value and volume sales even in midst of recession. The burgeoning Asia-Pacific, Latin America and other evolving markets such as Middle East and Africa logged encouraging positive growth patterns in 2008, even as other countries worldwide registered sales erosions during the year. The situation worsened in 2009, with sales in developed and mature countries including North America, Europe and Japan falling significantly. Developing economies on the other hand, managed to survive the year with marginal losses. Although the sales of apparel used in snow sports increased in 2008 and 2009, the actual contribution to the overall sports industry has been below average, reflected in the declining sales of sports apparel in 2009, particularly in the US and Europe.

The US constitutes the world's single largest and most developed regional market for sports and fitness clothing, as stated by the new research report on Sports and Fitness Clothing. Europe and Asia-Pacific trail behind as the other significant markets, with the three regions garnering a gigantic consolidated share of the world market. With respect to fastest growth potential, Asia-Pacific, spurred by rapidly expanding markets of India, China, Hong Kong and Australia among others is forecast to race ahead at the highest CAGR of over 4.0% through 2015. The Sports Apparel product segment commands a sizeable chunk of the global sports and fitness clothing market.

The sportswear market worldwide is characterized by severe competition among international powerhouses, which have been successful in capturing considerable share in the sports apparel market. Mirroring consolidation trends in industries worldwide, the sports apparel market also witnessed numerous mergers and acquisitions. The acquisition of the US stalwart Reebok by the German giant adidas in 2006 represents a landmark acquisition in the industry. Key market participants profiled in the report include Adidas AG, Reebok, Algo Group, Amer Sports Corporation, Ashworth Inc, ASICS America Corporation, Benetton Group S.p.A, Billabong International Limited, Blacks Leisure Group Plc, Columbia Sportswear Company, Descente Ltd., Eddie Bauer Inc., Escada AG, Everlast Worldwide Inc., Fila Online Inc., Foot Locker Inc., FUBU, Gap Inc., Banana Republic, Old Navy, Gildan Activewear Inc., Hanesbrands Inc., Hugo Boss AG, Jacques Moret Inc., JJB Sports Plc., among several others.

The research report titled "Sports and Fitness Clothing: A Global Strategic Business Report" announced by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., provides a comprehensive review of the industry outlook, current scenario, consumer and demographic profile, product overview, product innovations, recent industry activity and profiles of companies worldwide. Analysis and overview is provided for major geographic markets such as US, Canada, Japan, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Rest of World. Market analytics are provided in value (US$) terms for product segments including Sports Apparel, and Fitness Clothing. The study also presents historic data for an insight into market evolution over the period 2000 through 2006

New Novel is a Sharp Portrayal of Life and Human Relationships

Richard "Bingy" Brown, author of the action thriller "Living the Dream", returns to the literary world with the new novel, "Double Standards". In this gripping work of fiction, he invites readers to examine the complexity of human relationships in light of the experiences of a group of people bound and broken by love and lust, betrayal, murder, loyalty, desire and deception.

At the center of this intricate fable that sizzles with sex and Brown's signature blend of fact and fiction, are men and women who dare to examine the deepest chambers of the heart and psyche. There is strong-willed, 29-year-old Soneyah; the feisty Sylvia; Shevaughn, whose love and devotion to her husband did not spare her 10-year marriage from the Tips: Find Street Fashion Online(may be you can find what you want on the oasap.com) pain of infidelity; Asia, a 24-year old single mother of three and Rosemary, whose adolescence marred by sexual abuse makes it almost impossible for her to trust men. These women are uniquely different but they are bound to one another by their negative experiences with men and their determination to give their male counterparts a taste of their own medicine.

On another layer of the story are four men, Rayman, Luke, Knuckles and Hives, who will not let anything get in the way of their faithlessness and womanizing- even their own partners. The end of their odyssey of discovery will reveal to each character unexpected destinies and a stunning truth about themselves and those they love.

Witty, sharp and thoroughly engaging, "Double Standards" is a searing story of life peopled by broken yet real souls on the road to discovering redemption and what it truly means to love.

Protect Your Skin This Summer with Sun-Protective Swimwear

While packing the bag for the beach this summer, consider packing sun-protective swimwear in addition to all those bottles of sunscreen. Sun-protective UV rash guards and board shorts made by companies like Girls4Sport provide lasting protection from the sun that doesn't need to be reapplied.

"Sunscreen must be frequently reapplied to be effective," says dermatologist Dr. Beth Schulz-Butulis. "I recommend that people use sun protective clothing to the greatest extent that they can, since it provides constant protection."

Schulz-Butulis says it is important to make sure that the clothing has an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) label on it--ideally UPF 40 or higher. "Just wearing a regular T-shirt in the water will not give significant protection," says Schulz-Butulis. "For girls and women, I highly recommend Girls4Sport. Girls4Sport has a wide variety of stylish short and long sleeve swim tops, bottoms, and board shorts available with a UPF of 50."

"Girls4Sport is focused on designing performance swimwear for women and girls that protects their skin from the sun's harmful rays without sacrificing style or comfort," says Girls4Sport President Kim Ruby.

Girls4Sport's surf-inspired line of swimwear for women and children provides the maximum UPF rating of 50, which blocks at least 98% of UVA and UVB rays. The line features short sleeve and lo fashion jackets ng sleeve rash guard tops, coordinating swim bottoms, board shorts in varying lengths, and even pants. Modesty Matters to God, New Xulon Press Book States

The clothing a person wears and the image they portray speaks volumes. The way a person dresses often causes other people to form an opinion of what kind of person they are. But what kind of a message is the way people dress sending to others? Do people see Christ or the world? Scripture proves that people are important to God and so is how they dress. Within the pages of Daughters of God .........Modesty Matters ($14.99, paperback, 978-1-61379-518-7; $22.99, hardcover, 978-1-61379-519-4; $7.49, eBook, 978-1-61379-592-7), a new Xulon title from Jennifer Peikert, the author teaches women how very important they are to God, how they are fearfully and wonderfull women's coats y made, and how even the way they dress is important to God.

"I hope readers learn that their value is not in how they look or act but simply because they were created by God Himself," the author says. "Modesty and how we convey ourselves to others matters to God. I believe God wants this truth conveyed to His girls and all of this book is scripturally based and God-inspired."

The author was prompted by God to write this book after learning—through real life experiences—that how women dress can impact their lives. She has witnessed firsthand how so many girls and women today expose their bodies for acceptance and love, and this book is her response to that troubling trend. "God has truly brought me from ashes to beauty," she explains. "I have learned to see myself through His eyes, and I have seen how women dressing immodestly has impacted lives. I live the life of dressing modestly and have learned how important it is to God."

TV Shows Inspire UK Fashion Choices

They may be privileged, but the stylish residents of TV's Made in Chelsea have sent sales of luxury brands soaring on fashion comparison site StyleCompare.co.uk. And rival TV show The Only Way is Essex has created a boom in sales of animal prints and more affordable labels as viewers strive to dress just like their favourite "constructed reality" stars.

CHELSEA GIRLS (AND GUYS)
Purchases of Hunter Wellies, an outdoor staple for the leisurely classes, have boomed by 200%, as devoted viewers rush online to bag their own versions of Chelsea's most iconic piece. Tweed blazers, a particular favourite of Chelsea bachelor and heart throb Spencer Matthews, have sent sales of Harrison Tweed soaring by over 800% on StyleCompare.co.uk since the second series began.

Sales of Jimmy Choos have boomed in popularity on the fashion comparison website, with sales increasing over a quarter (27%) since the start of the second series of the hit programme. Coveted labels such as Kurt Geiger (16% increase), Joules (26% increase) and Ralph Lauren (16% increase) have been flying off online shelves as viewers rush online to get their own slice of the luxury lifestyle.

ESSEX BITES BACK
Not to be outdone by their rivals in the West, the cast of The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE) are fast-becoming the nation's most unlikely fashion icons – sales of leopard print have boomed by 45% as lovers of TOWIE rush to snap up their own versions of the Essex girls' outfits.

In fact, purchases of leopard print smoking slippers by Dorothy Perkins have skyrocketed by 950% and as sales boom by over 650%, Boohoo's faux fur leopard print coat (pictured) is already a seasonal best-seller. Topshop's leopard print waterfall skirt is another popular purchase with online sales up more than 100%.

The buck doesn't just stop with leopard prints. All manner of animal-tastic looks, from snake (32% increase), zebra (10% increase) and crocodile (26% increase) have also seen a boost on the site sin women's coats ce the show's third series hit our screens.

Other brands which strike a chord with the TOWIE girls have similarly increased in popularity on the fashion comparison website. Glitzy, yet affordable fashion brand Lipsy has received a bump in sales by almost a quarter (24%) in recent weeks.

Johanna Payton, head of fashion at StyleCompare.co.uk commented: "The beauty of constructed reality TV shows like TOWIE and Made In Chelsea is that the stars choose their clothes for themselves, so unlike A-list celebs, this makes their style much easier for fans to copy."

"Fans of Made in Chelsea want their little taste of the glamorous world of champagne, partying and falling in and out of love. Much of what the Made in Chelsea stars wear is expensive, but it doesn't take too long to save up for a pair of Hunter wellies or Jimmy Choos, and it's an investment that noone regrets making. Feeling like you have a little part of the beautiful, glamorous world of Made in Chelsea is a powerful feeling indeed."

"The TOWIE girls have made fashion a huge part of the show's storyline by opening their own boutiques and clothing lines, and their entrepreneurial attitude is a great thing for the viewers to aspire to. The fake tans and cosmetic surgery might make some viewers turn off, but dressing with attitude is something many women are defiantly up for copying and we expect the trend to grow in the run up to Christmas when it's more acceptable to leave the house in head-to-toe leopard print and killer heels."

New Cheapism Research Finds the Best Affordable Bras for Every Occasion

Consumers looking for a good bra to go underneath all those summer tops can look to Cheapism.com, a review site dedicated to finding quality low-cost products. Cheapism has researched key features and analyzed online reviews to identify the best cheap bras under $25: the Barely There Invisible Look Underwire for everyday, a Lilyette strapless bra that doubles as a minimizer for women with larger busts, a Maidenform push-up bra, and a sports bra by Moving Comfort.

While bras come in many different types, bra reviews indicate that comfort, support, fit, and durability are vital in any good bra, no matter the type. All the bras on Cheapism's list excel in these areas.

The top everyday bra, the Barely There Invisible Look Underwire (starting at $18), provides full coverage with seamless, lightly padded cups. Consumers find the bra comfortable, supportive, true to size, and, as the name suggests, invisible under clothing.

The Lilyette Tailored Strapless Minimizer Bra (starting at $17) earns a nod as the top cheap strapless bra. Consumers appreciate that they never have to yank up this bra, thanks in part to silicone grippers on the inside of the band that help prevent it from sliding. The band on a strapless bra should be wide to provide adequate support and stay securely in place.

The best cheap push-up bra, the Maidenform The Dream Bra Push-Up Bra (starting at $24), uses graduated padding to provide natural-looking lift that complements feminine curves. Although many women don't wear a push-up bra on a daily basis, reviewers deem this one comfortable enough for everyday.

The Moving Comfort Fiona (starting at $24) makes Cheapism's list as the top cheap sports bra, earning praise even from women with larger cup sizes. Reviews cite its women's coats ability to wick away sweat and provide ample support for high-intensity activities without being constrictive and making it harder to breathe.

About Cheapism.com
Called by The New York Times "a Consumer Reports for the cheap," Cheapism.com is a review site that serves consumers on a budget who want the best value for their money. Cheapism is the only review site that focuses exclusively on low-price products, a part of the market often overlooked by experts.

Workplace Designer Fashion Tips For the Recent College Grad From ShopRDR.com

While success as an undergrad requires a delicate balance of work, study and of course, a little fun, maneuvering up the fiercely competitive corporate ladder can be a bit more confounding: A dedicated worker may earn high marks with his employer, but may also be overlooked for that big promotion in favor of an equally qualified employee whose office attire fit the part. Making a statement of ambition and professionalism is an effort of sight and sound, and as Rodeo Drive Resale (RDR) co-founder and women's style expert Raya Jaffer explains, communication may rule the nation, but a professional style must goes the extra mile.

"First, it is important to establish a difference between your wardrobe for an interview and one for work," Raya says, warning recent grads to dress their best no matter what job they are seeking. "Perhaps you will be applying for a position in a more casual environment. This does not give y women's coats ou the okay to be dressed in casual attire for the interview unless you are specifically asked to."

Once you score that real world job, Raya says that any woman hoping to build the ultimate professional wardrobe should begin with the following key pieces: A cardigan, flats, a white button-up shirt, white camisole, a pair of pumps, and most importantly, a basic black suit.

"Your basic suit pieces should be what most of your wardrobe budget is designated for," she told Consumer Media News. According to Raya, mixing and matching your clothing and accessories is a great way to breathe life into a basic suit over and over again. "By simply adding blouses and accessories from discount stores, one suit can be worn a million different ways throughout the entire year."

She went on to advise the newly hired to learn the fashion climate of their specific place of employment before taking any wardrobe risks. Every company has its own set of rules concerning acceptable office attire, so if there is ever any doubt, take notice of how the consistently well-dressed person in the office puts themself together and follow suit – but not too closely, no one likes a copycat.

Recent graduates that have their basic pieces and would like to advance their look while saving a few bucks are in luck, as stores such as Banana Republic, Loft and Express offer shoppers quality merchandise at a price that is easy on the wallet. In addition to these mid-range retailers, Raya notes consignment stores are also a great place to find deals on suits, slacks, shoes, and accessories. Designer fashion resellers such as RDR, offer authentic, well inspected designer items at a fraction of what it would cost brand new.

"Shopping 'pre-owned' is not only great for your budget, but for the environment as well. You can really score some great deals if you know what you are looking for," she said.

For those seeking more information on consignment, Raya suggests visiting RDR's online consignment page, which offers more info on buying and selling your luxury designer items.

Michael Jackson’s Longtime Fashion Designer Reveals Singer’s Secrets Of Style

From actress Kate Winslet becoming the new face of St. John Knits, to Louis Vuitton summoning the legacy of Muhammad Ali as part of its Core Values campaign, top designers understand the power of the celebrity endorsement. Today, Rodeo Drive Resale, premier retailer of luxury designers, highlights a few famous faces and their past, present and future impact on popular fashion.

At the peak of his career, there was arguably no greater style tastemaker than Michael Jackson within the world of entertainment; years after his death, his influence on popular music and fashion remains.

Costume designer Michael Bush, who, alongside late partner Dennis Tompkins, helped craft several of Jackson's signature looks, said the star symbolized everything that was right about popular fashion.

"When you worked with him, you couldn't wait to get there and you didn't want to leave when you got done," Bush told the Associated Press. "It was hard to imagine anyone that projected fashion and style any better."

Unlike many celebrities who readily enjoy the spoils of free designer clothing in exchange for red carpet promotion, Bush said Michael opted for a style that influenced the influential. His plan worked: Even today, stars such as Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga have donned outfits reminiscent of the music icon's elaborate pieces. Fashion house Balmain has released military-style jackets that could have been pulled straight from the late singer's closet, with Christophe Decarnin, former designer of Balmain, noting Jackson's style as a source of inspiration.

"Michael's concept was, 'I want the fashion designers in the world, the big conglomerates, I want them to copy me. I don't want to wear what's out there. I want to push my individuality, and being that my music is me, my look should be me,'" Bush said.

Bush explores his work with Jackson and shares colorful photos of his legendary outfits in the new book, "The King of Style: Dressing Michael Jackson."

While Jackson's larger-than-life wardrobe was a masterfully planned trek toward fashion history, Kate Hudson recently revealed her less ambitious approach toward clothing. The 33-year-old actress, set to return as the face of Ann Taylor fall 2012, admitted to being somewhat of a fashion flowerchild.

"I definitely have more of an easy style," Hudson said in her interview in which she discussed her carefree look. "I hate the word bohemian, but it sort of is."

Hudson, daughter of Oscar-winning actress Goldie Hawn, said despite an unconventional approach to fashion, she owns an impressive collection of pieces from high-end designers, one she hopes to keep in the family.

"I archive a lot of my pieces — from when Stella (McCartney) was at Chloe and Tom Ford at Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci," she said. "My mom never kept her clothes. She was big into (Azzedine) Alaia clothes and she didn't keep them! She also had Ossie Clark dresses from the '70s, and I never got to wear them, so I decided when and if I have a little girl in my life, maybe she'll be into them and want to go into my closet someday."

Celebrity influence on fashion is hardly limited to the unveiling of next season's clothing line or the arena theater concert women's coats stage. Musicians and cinema stars can unwittingly influence how fashion lovers spend their money by simply living their "normal" lives. For example, actress Katie Holmes has seen Holmes & Yang, her upscale line of women's fashion, fly off of shelves in the wake of her split from Tom Cruise.

Although it has been available at Barneys New York for several years, Holmes & Yang is expected to be a top draw next month during New York Fashion Week.

"Every editor will be at the spring 2013 Holmes & Yang showing this September," Emmy Award-winning stylist told David Zyla FOX411's Pop Tarts column.

Holmes told the New York Times her fashion line was specifically designed for women on the move.

"We know that women are on the go and do a lot of different sorts of things all in one day. Hopefully, [Holmes & Yang] helps to provide them with some confidence in attacking all those different roles."

Rodeo Drive Resale (shopRDR.com) has built a reputation of providing amazing deals on handbags, clothing and accessories from the top designers of upscale fashion. The company offers a 100% guarantee of authenticity on each item sold, and works daily with a network of clients looking to buy, sell, or for consignment of their luxury goods. ShopRDR.com loves high-end fashion, and believes finding a high quality, classic piece should be an easy, enjoyable -- and most importantly -- hassle-free shopping experience. Gildan G200 Ultra Cotton® T-Shirt - 15% Discount - No Minimum

Gildan G200 6.1 oz. Ultra? Cotton T-Shirt, regularly priced at $6.24 is now on sale for $5.30 with no minimum from 8/31/12 thru 9/07 at Crooked Brook.

The G200 is made of 6.1 oz.,100% preshrunk cotton with a seamless collar, double-needle stitching throughout and taped shoulder-to-shoulder.

The 6.1 ounce G200 is more substantial than a typical 5 ounce T-Shirt. It is available in 62 colors including Ladies', Youth and pocketed options. The Gildan series of 6.1 ounce fabric styles includes 13 various T-shirt silhouettes.

Sizes: S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL

About T-Shirts

The t-shirt evolved from undergarments used in the 19th century, through cutting the one-piece "union suit" underwear into separate top and bottom garments, with the top long enough to tuck under the waistband of the bottoms. By the Great Depression, the t-shirt was often the default garment to be worn when doing farm or ranch chores, as well as other times when modesty called for a torso covering but conditions called for lightweight fabrics.

T-shirts, with and without buttons, were adopted by miners and stevedores during the late 19th century as a convenient covering for hot environments.

T-shirts, as a slip-on garment without buttons, originally became popular in the United States when they were issued by the U.S. Navy during or following the Spanish American War. These were a crew-necked, short-sleeved, white cotton undershirt to be worn under a uniform. It became common for sailors and Marines in work parties, the early submarines, and tropical climates to remove their uniform "jacket", wearing (and soiling) only the undershirt.

Named the t-shirt due to the shape of the garment's outline, it soon became popular as a bottom layer of clothing for workers in various industries, including agriculture. The t-shirt was easily fitted, easily cleaned, were made in various colors and patterns and inexpensive, and for this reason it became the shirt of choice for young boys.

Basic t-shirts are staples in the promotional products industry and it is important that vendors understand their client's budget and needs right from the start. A vendor's presentation should always include women's jackets at least three levels of basic T-shirts so customers can see and feel the differences. 50/50 T-shirts are a great value; their low price and durability from the blend of cotton and polyester make them a customer favorite. However, 100% cotton t-shirts offer the softness and comfort many customers want for their promotional pieces. When looking for a substantial and ultra soft t-shirt, 100% ringspun cotton t-shirts are the way to go.

Although the most popular method of printing t-shirts is screen printing, Crooked Brook t-shirts are printed using Direct To Garment Printing (DTG) which is the process of using inkjet printers to print an image directly onto t-shirts without the use of screens like with screen printing, which requires a lot of setup e.g., creating screens for each color. In addition, DTG printing uses eco-friendly, water soluble ink, unlike some screen printing methods that layer Plastisol (a suspension of PVC particles in a plasticizer) on top of the t-shirt. The only requirement for DTG printing is for the image to be high resolution, resulting in photograph quality printing with no setup fee or minimums for custom t-shirts.

Skygirls: A Photographic History of the Airline Stewardess

"Skygirls" is a large format, hard cover, photos-and-text tribute to the lives, careers and legacy of the women who once were a hugely admired and envied part of air travel, in the days before civil rights legislation and important changes in societal standards ended an era of what many will frankly admit was one of the most sexist careers a young woman could pursue.

Yet pursue it they did, despite low pay, long hours and leering passengers. Just as boys wanted to become cops and firemen, teenage girls dreamed of a career in the sky: travel, adventure, handsome pilots and marriageable passengers were only some of the attractions of the airline business. Stiff physical standards, a prohibition against marriage and unspoken but unconscionable demands that the women working the cabin be somewhere between flirty and available were the downside. "They were America's Vestal Virgins," said one airline executive.

Featuring more than 250 color and black-and-white photographs documenting the early days of airline travel (when stewardesses had to be registered nurses) as well as the glory days of the trans-ocean flying boats and the first Postwar intercontinental luxury airliners, the book also follows both American and foreign stewardesses through the jet-setting "Coffee, Tea or Me?" days of the Swinging Sixties and hedonistic Seventies.

The job necessarily became as homogenized as its new title―"flight attendant"―but even today, there are foreign carriers who operate far from the enlightened social standards that have so changed the career, for better or worse, in the U. S. and Europe. The book visits some of the mammoth double-deck Airbus 380s and long-range versions of t women's jackets he Boeing 747 that still carry what can only be called stewardesses, cut from the classic cloth of femininity plus a frank flavoring of come-hither allure.

AMARILLO: An Electrifying Multimedia Theater Production About Immigration by Teatro Linea de Sombra -- Mexico’s Premier Experimental Theater Company October 18–20

The Latino International Theater Festival of New York (LITF/NY) and TeatroStageFest present Amarillo, a breathtaking, cutting-edge multimedia theater production by internationally-acclaimed experimental Mexican theater company Teatro Línea de Sombra October 18–20 at Baruch Performing Arts Center in Manhattan.

In the hard-hitting Amarillo, which director Jorge A. Vargas calls "physical, visual theater," film, dance, narrative, music, and evocative props create a powerful, harrowing multi-layered tale of immigration from Mexico to the United States.

The gripping production embodies the ongoing human drama taking place every day at the U.S. southern border. A man departs for the U.S.-Mexican border and vanishes. Amarillo, Texas, is the destination he never reaches. In the distance, a woman yearns for his return and reconstructs his probable journey. The performance unfolds in a sea of displaced objects – tennis shoes, water jugs, a backpack with clothes - the migrants' survival kit. As the performers travel imagined landscapes of both geography and cultural identity, the absent man comes to symbolize the thousands of disillusioned immigrants who have suffered a similar fate. Amarillo, a provocative and stimulating work, touches on the complex nature of individual and national identity in a time of exodus—both for those who leave, and those who are left behind. The NY performances of Amarillo mark the start of the national tour of Southern Exposure: Performing Arts of Latin America to NY, NJ, DC, and the State of Washington, funded by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and Robert Sterling Clark Foundation.

Jaime Chabaud of Mexico's Milenio said, "Amarillo can't be classified. It is solid as rock, heartrending scenic poetry, brutal and beautiful."
Performed in Spanish with English super-titles. At Baruch Performing Arts Center, 55 Lexington Avenue, Manhattan at 8pm October 18-20. Tickets $30. Students and Seniors $15. Watch the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQngfvy3uow&feature=player_embedded

Teatro Línea de Sombra was founded in 1993 by Jorge A. Vargas, one of Mexico's most prominent contemporary directors. Under his direction, and through a process of collaboration with the actors, Teatro Línea de Sombra has emerged as one of the leading Mexican touring ensembles and has received international acclaim for its distinctive theatrical and visual productions that combine movement, projection, original scores and other forms of mixed media.

Haunted Lighthouses - Presque Isle Lighthouse, Michigan

Located on the land protruding from the eastern shore of Lake Huron in Michigan, you'll find the Presque Isle Lighthouse. The name Presque Isle comes from the French term that means "almost an island." Congress appropriated $7,000 to fund the construction of the lighthouse in 1838 and construction started shortly thereafter. The lighthouse was completed in 1840.

The original Presque Isle Lighthouse tower stood 30 feet high with four foot thick walls at the base. Inside was a hand-cut stone stairway that spiraled around the interi women's jackets or wall of the tower up to the lantern. About 30 feet from the lighthouse a small detached single story lightkeeper's residence was built. The light was lit for the first time in September of 1840 when the first keeper moved in.

By 1866, the keeper's dwelling was in such poor condition that nothing short of a complete rebuild would make the structure liveable again. The owner requested that money be made available for the rennovation of the building and Congress approved the requested appropriation on March 2, 1867.

As the construction was about to begin, the Lighthouse Board changed its direction. Due to the height of the standing lighthouse tower, it was only functional to light the harbor. It was decided that instead of refurbishing the standing buildings they would construct a larger light at the tip of the peninsula about a mile north of the original, along with two range lights to help light the harbor. These new lights would render the current light virtually obsolete and the planned rennovation was cancelled.

The new lighthouse was completed in 1871 and the lightkeeper moved with his family to the new location. The new light was lit on June 1, 1871 and the lens and lantern from the original light were removed and shipped off to be used elsewhere. After the lantern was removed, the old tower was left uncapped and the windows and doors were boarded-up. The buildings stood empty and in disrepair for 26 years.

Finally, in 1897 the lighthouse and surrounding property were sold at public auction. Once again, the buildings sat in disrepair for years, being used mainly as a picnic area for guests of a nearby hotel.

When the property was purchased again in the 1930's, the new owners rebuilt the light keeper's dwelling in the style of an old English cottage and used it for a summer home. In the 1940's, vacationers started asking for tours of the old light station and the owner realized that converting the property into a museum might make him some money. The old tower was refurbished, washed-out cement was replaced between the stones, and a fresh coat of white paint was applied.

The old cottage was furnished with mid-nineteenth century period items and maritime artifacts were displayed in the cottage as well as on the grounds. The station finally got electricity in 1965, and the light was reactivated in the tower. The Coast Guard wouldn't allow it to be used as an official lighthouse, however, so the old light was again deactivated.

In 1977, a retired couple, George and Lorraine Parris took over the property as live-in tour guides and custodians. George was a personable man who enjoyed his job at the lighthouse and loved greeting the visitors to the lighthouse, especially the children. He enjoyed taking the visitors to the lighthouse on a tour of the buildings and grounds and shared stories of the lives of the lightkeepers and their families. He also liked to play harmless pranks on visitors by blowing the foghorn just to make sure everyone was paying attention. The loud, unexpected sound gave everyone a start. Sadly, George died of a massive heart attack on January 2, 1992.

Lorraine stayed on and continued their work at the tower. One night on her way back to the light station, she saw a light shining in the old lighthouse. Knowing full well that this was impossible since George had disconnected the electricity to the tower years before, she was a bit frazzled.

The Coast Guard had said it was illegal to display a light in the old tower because mariners might confuse it with the New Presque Lighthouse. To ensure that no accidental lighting would occur, the Coast Guard had actually removed the gears so the lens could no longer rotate. It was impossible to come up with a reasonable explanation for why the light was there.

Soon other people began reporting the light in the old tower. National Guard pilots have reported seeing it when they flew night missions over the peninsula. There have also been reports that George's light guiding people to safety on dark, stormy, foggy nights. To this day, the light still comes on at dusk and goes off at daylight. The U.S. Coast Guard has classified it as n "unidentified" light.

In July 1992, a little girl reported seeing a man at the top of the stairs leading to the lantern room. The little girl said he was a tall man with white hair, a beard, and was wearing glasses. When she was shown a picture of George, she said that was the man she saw in the tower but he was "brighter white" when she saw him. Another story, possibly a different version of the same story, reports that a little girl touring the lighthouse with her family climbed to the top of the tower and came back down giggling. She said she had been talking to the man in the tower.

The lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Sites in 1973. The area was incorporated into the State Park by the State of Michigan and donated to the Township in 1995. The Township Historical Society continues to operate the lighthouse as a museum open seven days a week from May through October.

Horse Breeds: Moyle, Murgese, Mustang, National Show Horse, New Forest Pony

*MOYL women's coats E*

A man by the name of Rex Moyle created the Moyle breed of horses in Idaho during the middle of the 20th century. He used mustangs that had been brought into Idaho from Utah. Moyle horses are light riding horses that are normally bay or brown and they have front horns. The breed is rare.

*MURGESE*

A light riding horse and draft horse that is similar to the Friesian, the Murgese is found in Italy. The breed is rare. Most often in black, the Murgese is also ocassionally gray. They are descendants of Oriental horses that were crossed with local horses. There is a Murgese herdbook established in 1926.

*MUSTANG*

Sometimes referred to as the American Feral Horse, the Mustang breed is found wild in the western United States. Mustang is from a Spanish word, "mesteno" which means "wild" or "Stray". Mustangs were originally Spanish horses, but over the years and due to their roaming qualities, they have now become a mix of several breeds. European settlers brought their own horses into the west; Indian raids and freed wild stallions tore down domestic fences and joined the tamed horses; and Indians captured horses between tribes and bartered which contributed to the distribution of Mustang horses and mix of breeding.

The United States government purchased 150 horses from Germany every year for 10 years between the 1800's and 1900's. The East Friesian horse was a heavy warmblood that could pull heavy wagons and artillery- but some escaped and their blood was mixed with the Wild Mustangs of the west.

The herds of Mustangs started to cause problems when the western United states became settled and the land was needed for cattle to graze. Some mustangs were shot to the point that the population was cut in half by 1926. A Wild Free Roaming Horse and Burro Act was passed by Congress in 1971 that helps protect these horses. The population of Mustangs grew again, until they were too numerous once again. The Adopt-a-Horse program in 1973 began in Montana to help distribute excess Mustangs in a humane way. Individuals can adopt a horse for $125 provided they meet certain requirements. The government actually owns the adopted horses for a year after adoptions, until a veterinarian statement is produced to show the horse is under good care.

Most Mustang horses are warmbloods, and the coat colors can be any colors found on horses. Some still exhibit Spanish characteristics despite that blood being very diluted in the breed.

*NATIONAL SHOW HORSE*

A registry called The National Show Horse Registry was created in order to meet the need within the equine industry for athletic horses with beauty that could be shown in the ring.

The breed has the refinement and stamina of the typical Arabian horse, and a high-stepping movement like the American Saddlebred. In 1981, the National Show Horse breed was born. The registry has taken every possible step to be sure that a wide variety of combinations of the Arabian and American Saddlebred bloodlines produce a high quality horse.

New concepts and horse shows have been developed in which to show these fantastic horses, and a high prize money system encourages spectators and exhibitors to participate.

*NEW FOREST PONY*

The New Forest Pony is named for and was originated from a forest located in southern England. Of the mountain and moorland ponies in the British Isles, the New Forest Pony is the most recognized breed. They are known for their strength, willing to please temperaments, intelligence and versatility.

The size of New Forest Ponies are usually between 12 and 14 hands. They are often brown, bay and gray colored, although some chestnuts, blacks and roans can be seen. The registry allows a few white markings on legs and head.

Well bred New Forest Ponies have a free and straight movement, strong quarters, body debth and be a good riding horse. Their versatility allows them ability to participate in Pony Club, Dressage and Polo-Driving, as well as gymkhana and jumping. Many New Forest Ponies are used for training to carry handicap riders.

New Forest Ponies are extremely gentle and they are often used for children's horses. They can carry light weight adults as well, and are an ideal driving pony.

Solar How To: Constructing a Solar Water Heating Panel Part III

For any of you interested in lowering your utility bill. Here is a numerical, step-by-step guide to constructing a solar water heating panel. The materials are cheap and easy to come by:

1. Constructing the solar water heating panel frame and tray requires the use of the cedar boards, drill and circular saw. Construct a wooden frame that measures 1500 mm by 900 m by 80 mm. The corner joints are an important aspect of frame construction. Make sure to use a corner joint technique that allows for stability and durability. Seal with wood glue.

2. Once the initial frame has been constructed, drill two holes measuring 11 mm in both sides of the frame. The holes should be plac women's coats ed 2 inches from the top and bottom of the frame. This allows the copper tubing to run through the frame.

3. Measure the newly constructed frame and cut a sheet from the plywood that fits those measurements exactly. Nail this sheet onto the back of the frame. Seal with wood glue.

4. Use a wood finish to coat the frame and backing sheet to ensure durability. Allow to dry fully before proceeding.

5. Next create the absorber plate. Clean the aluminum sheet on both sides to eliminate any possible oil or dirt residue it may have collected. Using fine sandpaper or steel wool, etch into the shiny side of the aluminum sheet.

6. Apply the spray primer to the now etched side of the aluminum sheet. Allow to dry and then spray it with the black matte finish paint. The paint will dry quickly, but it is best to let it sit overnight so it can harden fully.

7. Bend the copper tubing into a cylindrical shape. This can be achieved by bending the tubing slowly around the base of a bottle. This step should be done slowly, so the tubing is not nicked in the process. Spray the entire outside of the newly constructed cylinder with black matte paint and allow it to dry. The cylinder should have enough tubing left on each end to be threaded into the frame when installed.

8. Once the paint on the copper tube has dried, place the tube onto the black side of the aluminum sheet. Trace with chalk and mark points where holes can be drilled into the sheeting to secure the copper tubing. Remove the copper tube and drill holes wide enough to fit a heavy duty wire through. Replace the copper tube and secure it to the black side of the aluminum sheet by winding a single piece of heavy duty wire through the holes. Make the wire as tight as possible, as the copper tube needs to fit snuggly against the sheeting.

9. Lay the 3-inch thick fiber glass wool into the bottom of the wooden frame. Be sure the entire surface is covered with the fiber glass wool, and then place aluminum foil, shiny side up, on top of the fiber glass wool.

10. Lay the aluminum sheet with the attached copper tubing on top of the aluminum foil and fiber glass wool. The aluminum sheeting can be sealed into place by screwing strips of wood beading to the sides of the frame. Be sure to thread the copper tubing through the holes previously drilled on the side of the frame. Re-spray the entire inside structure with black paint to cover any discrepancies and allow it to dry.

11. Place the glass sheet in the tray over the aluminum sheeting. There should be no more than a half-inch gap between the copper tubing and the glass. A large gap will cause heating inefficiencies. Seal the glass into place using another strip of wood beading and wood glue. Seal the entire structure with a multi-purpose sealant.

The step-by-step directions can be used by a homeowner or renter in the construction of a solar water heating panel. These panels are used as both an alternative energy source and a cost-saving device. While solar power can be expensive initially, solar power will pay for itself in the long run. Solar water heating panels are an example of how a homeowner or renter can engage in saving money by spending some time on a do-it-yourself project.
